Happy Birthday Pong!

So, I'm a slashdot junkie. Whenever I log into a pc 3 webpages get opened. Google, Gmail and slashdot.

While getting my fix this morning, I came across this posting

Videogames Turn 40

There's a great piece of history for all us gamers. Hard to not look back at all the years of great games and smile fondly.

I remember all the hours I wasted at my Commodore Vic20, keying in the code for some game printed in a computer magazine, then looking for the typo's when it didn't work correctly.

How many remember that? Don't be shy, let me see your hands!

Oh I can remember those days. The day of the full height full length 5 and 1/4 inch floppy drive. Or you could upgrade to the tape drive if needed and the most color you could get was 16 out of your monitor.

Oh the good old days. /sigh

DOOOD!! I didn't know you did the whole Commodore magazine thing! I totally did that. Hours and hours of typing in code from the back of magazines. I can remember one game in particular that was a karate game. Pretty simplistic. Just kick and punch. And I think there might have been 2 types of punches and 2 types of kicks, but I don't remember for sure. Man...those were the days. I was such a nerd. Oh yeah, still am. Just got back from the comic book store...

LOL! Yeah I did. I don't remember getting any of them to actually work. If i remember right, almost all of them were actually for the Commie 64. There were a couple differences I guess.

A couple months back I went scouring the internet, found a C64 emulator and a Mule rom. Hours of nostalgic amusement!

I still haven't found a good Apple IIe emulator or a reliable TaiPan image to go with it, though.

YES, and I remember playing Police Quest in your dad's office in the church. Ahhhhh. what times.

I loved the Police Quest, Kings Quest, Space Quest games. The Infendo Radio guys commented once on their podcast about how cool it would be to have some of those on the Wii since the Wiimote would be perfect for a point and click game.

We found a good Apple IIe emulator at work one day and played a couple rounds of Oregon Trail. We all went thru it individually and compared scores. And we named the people in our parties after our coworkers. So we had coworkers coming down with diseases and taking arrows...good fun.

Oh yeah ... and entering hexadecimal code for the graphics was the WORST.

BUT

I've still got a bunch of the magazines and books here. AND my parents only Apple //e as well. Maybe someday when I have time and an office.
